Colonel Van Nijvenheim

Bij het onderzoek naar de Mookerschans stuitten wij in de periodiek De Grenssteen, (over beide later meer), op een artikel van H.J.M. Spruijt over een van de heren van Mook, die wij als Colonel van een Regiment Cavalerie terugvonden bij de slag van Ramillies. Een fraai schilderij van Wolt(h)er Gottfried van Nijvenheim, heer van Kessel, Mook en Mussenberg.

During our investigations, we found out that local history is still booming. Almost every town and village in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany has a group of enthousiasts studying genealogy and local history, digging up very interesting material and publishing about it.

Whilst looking for more information on one of the sconces near the village of Mook, I stumbled on an article by H.J.M. Spruijt in the magazine "De Grenssteen" (The Mook local history magazine), on one of the Lords of Mook, who turned out to be a Cavalry commander at Ramillies.

It took a while, but he painting of a young Wolther Gottfried of Nijvenheim, is now at City Hall in Mook. The picture above is from the RKD website.
