Oudste aandeel ter wereld ~ The oldest shareholders document

HOORN - Geschiedenisstudent Ruben Schalk (25) heeft recent in het Westfries Archief in Hoorn het oudste aandeel ter wereld gevonden. De unieke vondst van het VOC-aandeel werd donderdagmiddag in Enkhuizen bekend gemaakt. Het document is vanaf vrijdag in een speciale VOC-expositie in het Westfries Museum in Hoorn te zien.

The oldest shareholders document of the world, from the year 1602, a share in the Dutch East Indies Company VOC, has been found by student Ruben Schalk, in the archives of the Westfrisian Museum in Hoorn. At that time it was worth 150 guilders, but the present value will run into millions of euro's! The previous oldest share, from 1606 played a leading role in the movie Ocean's 12.

A true treasure cove for anyone interested in the Staten's colonial interests. Documents, maps and illustrations: everything connected to the Dutch East India Company (Verenigde Oost-Indische Compagnie, VOC) and the West-Indische Compagnie (WIC) can be found here. "At present this expanding database contains 6244 images drawn from a variety of collections in the Netherlands and abroad. VOC schip in brand ~ VOC ship Prince William burns down

Vanmorgen reed ik door Den Helder en zag het VOC replica-schip Prins Willem, dat gisteren in brand vloog, nog steeds nabranden. Na een korte vakantie op de Waddeneilanden straks meer over de brand en het marinemuseum van Den Helder.

This morning I saw the still burning remains of the VOC ship Prince William in the harbour of Den Helder. After a short holiday on the Wadden-Islands, more on this and more on the Navy Museum of Den Helder.
