Schansen en forten ~ Sconces and fortresses

Een aantal fraaie prenten wederom, de eerste van Edward Wells BV, voorstellende de inname van Nieuweschans, met daaromheen afbeeldingen van andere schansen in de Provincie Groningen. Let op: de Bellingwolderschans is dezelfde als de Oude Schans! De gekleurde plaat komt van de beeldbank 'Geheugen van Nederland' , is van 1649 en komt uit de collectie van het (Amsterdamse) Scheepvaartmuseum.

Some more plates again, the first one depicting the storming of the fortress of Nieuweschans, courtesy of Edward Wells BV, surrounded by pictures of various sconces and fortresses in the Province of Groningen. Unfortunatly, the editor of the page didn't know that the Bellingwolderschans is the same as the Oudeschans (litt: Old Sconce). The second pic comes from the image bank 'Geheugen van Nederland' and comes from the collection of the Amsterdam Maritime Museum.

Nogmaals Nieuweschans 'berend' (is bestormd) in 1673, een prent van de site van het Rijksmuseum.

De site van het British Museum heeft mooie plaatjes, alleen zijn ze in het niet te downloaden flv formaat. De detaillering is voortreffelijk. Zo vond ik er ook het beleg van Nieuweschans door Rabenhaupt in 1673, door Romeyn de Hooghe.



Dit heb ik uitvergroot. Op de prent zijn twee vaandels te zien en let vooral op het rechter vaandel, die lijkt wel rood-wit-blauw!

On the site of the British Museum you can fin a lot of nice pics, the bigger ones in flv format, so that needs a bit of fiddling around with. The pic is of the siege and storming of the Nieuweschans in 1673 by Romeyn de Hooghe. I have enlarged two flags as the right one looks like a red-white-blue flag, which looks rather odd to me.
