Vaandel Reg. Aylva ~ Colour Regiment Aylva





Mijn eerste vertaalwerkje zit er al weer bijna op (binnenkort in dit theater), dus op naar de volgende. Het artikel dat ik heb vertaald grijpt onder meer terug op de tekeningen van Hoynck van Papendrecht en de vaandels worden vooral beschreven, en dat heeft ook te maken de reproductie-technieken van toen. (en dat was overtekenen of overschilderen). Een van de vaandels die Bottema beschrijft is die van regiment van Aylva, de colonel bijgenaamd de 'Ontzaglijke', held van Chatham, Seneffe en Fleurus. In het artikel meer over dit vaandel.

Well, the translation of my first article is nearly finished (soon here) so we can concentrate on the next. The article I translated uses drawings made my Hoynck van Papendrecht and the flags are described rather than adding text to a drawing, as reproduction techniques were not as simple as thet are today. One of the colours that Bottema described is the above one, of regiment Aylva of Colonel Aylva, the Magnificent, hero of Chatham, Seneffe and Fleurus. More about this flag in the upcoming article. Bottema describes different colours.

  1. According to Belaubre, the above banner also could be from regt Schwarzenberg. For some reason this pic is very difficult to find again on the website of the dutch army museum.
