Musketten en snaphanen ~ Muskets and flintlocks

Another article from the Navorscher, ('Enquirer') a magazine devoted to history, heraldry and genealogy, that existed from 1851 to 1960. Some of the mags can be found on Google Books, but here you can by all the mags with full text retrieval on CD. I just lend one from the library, it's quite good but some texts turned out a bit strange.

The article deals with muskets, calivers (in dutch 'klovenier') and other shooting material. The first ones to recieve flintlocks were the Marines (1665) and the Guards an grenadier units, the other regiments still had to work with the '14 bullets to a pound' matchlock musket. (This can be concluded form an order of 1688). William III ordered in 1701 that all units had to be equiped with the flintlocks. Also mentioned in the article is a publication by Coehoorn in 1682 in which he describes a working removable bayonet, as invented by him (! Not a modest one, was he?!).
