Naarden september 1672

In june 1672 the town of Naarden, a fortress town guarding Amsterdam, was captured by the French. It took three attempts to re-capture the town, and the year the town was battled for, is very well documented. Also present in the area was a small Spanish contigent, and I will publish some more info on them in the next posts. The map shown above is a 1672 sketch made by spies of the French positions and were used in a plan devised by Johan 'the Brazilian' Maurits of Nassau.

I read that the fall of Naarden to the Dutch sped the French preparations for the invasion of Franche-Comté (or Franco Condado). Too bad for the Spanish empire ;-)
