Sail 2010

Het grootschalige zeilevenement Sail 2010 is weer van start gegaan, en voor onze periode is vooral het schip de Shtandart van belang, naast de Zweedse Ghotheborg en het - overigens zeer lelijke - Utrechtse Statenjacht.

Voor een wat rustiger bezoek aan oude schepen kun je beter naar de Bataviawerf gaan, (naast de outlet).

This is the time and year of the great Amsterdam sailing event 'Sail', with a lot of tallships to view, but also the Russian replica Shtandart from 1702, the Swedish Ghoteborg (around 1745), and the Utrecht States' Ship, from 1745 (hideous looking boat). The nice thing is, you can visit almost any boat that's on parade, but the downside is, it's a very succesfull event so a lot, and I mean a lot of people show up.

The event Delfsail, in the town of Delfzijl, in the upper north of the Netherlands almost got one million visitors last year! (But they showed the replica of HMS Bounty there)

For a more quiet visit to old sailing ships, visit the Batavia shipyard in Lelystad (next to several outlet stores).
