Two pics of a Munster flag captured by the Swedes in 1678, plus an article in German about the heraldry of the Bishop of Munster, taken from a catalogue by the Landesmuseum Munster called Bommen Berend. Unfortunatly the motto's are not readable and do no coincide with known motto's of the Bishop.

3 opmerkingen:

  1. I think it's part of a phrase from Psalm 70. The whole text reads: "Confundantur, et deficiant detrahentes animae meae: operiantur confusione, et pudore qui quaerunt mala mihi" (Let the detractors of my soul be confounded and fail; let them be covered with confusion and shame, who seek evil for me).

    I think the flag depicts:

    OPERIANTUR CONFUSIONE

    -----coat of arms------

    QUI QUAERUNT MALA MIHI

  2. (Ik ben blijkbaar niet erg bijbelvast meer..)
